Talking to many experts, veteran pilots and modern RAF pilots revealed that the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was in fact a superior warplane to the Spitfire. This revelation was a bit of a shock as well as a surprise, especially when the Spitfires managed to terrorise the Luftwaffe to the point where Hitler had to make special plans to stop its manufacture. Of course when you think about it, no machine is any good unless it’s in the hands of an expert dedicated to it. Well, they don’t come any more qualified than the RAF pilots and all those behind them who kept them flying; the ground crews, engineers and the factory workers who built them.
